Renewable energy made us this dependent.

To reduce this dependency in the short run, we need to use everything we have. In the long run, we have to invest in clean nuclear power.

This week’s fifth package was supposed to ‘close sanctions loopholes’. But it may have created more loopholes than it closed.

We need a sixth sanctions package right away.

That’s why I worked hard to include this in the European Parliament resolution:

First huge problem: the ban deliberately excludes energy imports. That’s an enormous omission. Because the single most valuable product Russia ships to the EU is oil.

EU oil imports sponsor Putin’s war machine for more than a quarter BILLION euros a day.

There’s more.

Multiple reports of the IPCC have been self-explanatory: climate is changing, impacts are severe, but solutions are there.

From a climate and a geopolitical perspective, we need to stop the expansion of coal, oil and gas and start debating an import ban on Russia’s fossil fuels.

Esther de Lange (CDA) di 5 apr 2022, 18:18

Thirdly, and this is a big deal, is a general EU ban on participation of Russian companies in public procurement. European tax money should not go to Russia, in any shape or form. This is highly needed support for local and regional governments looking to do the right thing.
