If they believe they have a convincing case, then why are they always trying to sneak data retention in via the back door, instead of facing their national parliaments and a public debate?

Data retention and mass surveillance are the pet obsession of national governments since many years. So many sneaky attempts in the Council to circumvent #CJEU rulings. But so far no shred of evidence for its necessity or proportionality. @Europarl_EN has to be vigilant.

Naast Google Search, Gmail en Youtube doet Google ook aan onderwijs en gezondheid (Fitbit).
Door hun online machtspositie hebben techbedrijven extreem veel data en veel geld waarmee ze nieuwe markten kunnen veroveren, waaronder onze publieke diensten.💸💸💸

Zo betreedt Big Tech onze publieke sector en wordt onze maatschappij nog afhankelijker van een paar bedrijven in Sillicon Valley die ons internet al beheersen. Tegelijkertijd verzamelen ze zo nog meer data over ons. En met die data kunnen ze weer groeien en uitbreiden. ♾

Typical @EU_Commission approach: political considerations prevail over legal criteria. This Adequacy Decision may well end up in the bin, next to the Data Retention Directive, Safe Harbor, Privacy Shield, PNR.

Na vier jaar gedraal door nationale regeringen kunnen we eindelijk gaan onderhandelen over nieuwe ePrivacy regels. Dat is fijn, maar we moeten scherp blijven op overheden die Zuckerbergje willen spelen met onze data.

👉UK data retention, mass surveillance programmes & exemption data protection for immigrants need to be amended
👉SIS violations must be solved to show UK can be trusted with our data

👎Maar, wist je dat Whatsapp ook in de EU data aan Facebook doorspeelt? Je telefoonnummer, wanneer je voor het laatst online was en hoe vaak je Whatsapp gebruikt. Whatsapp krijgt binnenkort een forse boete omdat zij hier niet duidelijk over waren.

Zojuist sprak de uitvoerend directeur van de @EMA_News in de milieucommissie.

Zij zei dat de EMA in februari de volledige klinische data van de vaccins gaat publiceren + iedere maand een veiligheidsupdate.

I see the UK makes every effort to convince the EU it takes data protection in law enforcement very seriously: 400.000 police records accidentally deletd. It would be funny if it didn't coincide with negotiations over EU-UK data sharing and police cooperation

Google belooft de data van Fitbit niet voor advertenties te gebruiken. Maar, onze afhankelijkheid van Google groeit. Met data van Fitbit kan Google actief worden op de gezondheidsmarkt, nog machtiger worden en nog meer data verzamelen. nu.nl/tech/6097333/e…

Another reason why the new #DMA is so important. If we approve these kind of take-overs and let giants like Google get even more data about us, it is completely clear that our competition law is extremely outdated.
Unfortunately in this case, the damage is already done.

Europol mag van de @EU_Commission big data gaan analyseren. Een bekende, maar riskante reflex: meer data opslokken, zonder duidelijk oplossingsrichting. Gerichte en tijdelijke surveillance zou beter zijn.

Digitale marktplaatsen laten zich slecht vergelijken met een supermarkt. Supermarkten hebben data die ze vergaren door enquetes, verkoopanalyses etc. Amazon verzamelt op grote schaal informatie over voorkeuren gebruikers - ook buiten de eigen site. Zie: wired.com/2005/03/amazon…
