Court of Auditors report is crystal clear: European countries did not do enough to help asylum seekers in Greece and Italy. Legally agreed targets of relocation are not met and support for procedures is insufficient.

Briefing by the Helsinki Committee on the rule of law situation in Hungary. Sad to hear many new stories of grave intimidations of judges and opposition parties and grave harassments of asylum seekers. More action from both the EU Council and Commission is urgently needed.

@NLatEU @EP_Justice @YlvaJohansson @JFLopezAguilar @maitepagaza @MalikAzmani @jeroen_lenaers @Tineke_Strik Couldn’t agree more. So I encourage the member states to take their responsibility and finally adopt the CEAS Asylum package. It has been blocked in Council for far too long.

As Hungarian authorities are usually very late with providing legal aid to asylum-seekers @martapardavi I thought your legal team might step in and help #Gruevski with his claim. Afterall you are the most experienced. And as an asylum-seeker he can probably only afford pro bono.

So there you have it: former Macedonian PM Gruevski can apply for asylum im Hungary without being locked up for at least 3 months at Röszke transit zone. Now lets see on which grounds he will be granted asylum. Stay tuned for next episode!

The next question is: will the Hungarian authorities stick to their rules and send Gruevski to apply for asylum from the detention centre or will they dismiss his claim as he fled from a - according to them - safe country? Or non of the above? Stay tuned!

I once asked the Hungarian authorities wether one can ask for asylum outside of the detentions centres at the Serbian border. ‘No’ was the answer. Will they lock #Gruevski up or is there a VIP-asylum procedure possible in Budapest?

Disturbing, also there are exponentially more ‘anti-immigrant militia’ than immigrants >> ‘The Czech Republic took in 12 migrants from Greece and Italy under an EU scheme and granted asylum to just 145 people last year.
Slovenia granted asylum to 152 people last year.’

The #EUCO conclusions on #migrationEU show that the EU can address tough questions. Unfortunately, the answers are weak. We need to prioritise putting our own house in order by adopting and enforcing the EU asylum rules.
