Glad the @EU_Commission stands its ground on freezing 7.5 bln in cohesion funds. #RuleOfLaw concerns did not magically disappear in Hungary. A hasty release would only reward Orbán’s blackmail. Now it’s up to Member States to stand firm as well & not succumb to Orbán’s pressure.

Highly interesting panel discussion! Unfortunately, Orbán’s representative in the panel doesn’t want to understand that the use of cohesion funds is not a “one-way street” but is linked to conditions such as the respect of the #RuleOfLaw!

@CorinaCretuEU : there are only objectieve criteria in the calculation of the budgets for Cohesion. No punishment to Poland and Hungary. Same judgement all Countries and regions: EP will debate the outcomes and cuts soon. @EPP_CoR @EPPGroup

It is an overwhelming result in the plenary vote. During the crisis #cohesion delivered. In many Member States the regional funds were the only public funding, after the servere cuts Now we are in a next phase: investments in knowledge and innovation will be in the forefront.

Budget contribution to Cohesion budget benefit to net-payers: contribution EU Cohesion pays back. Germany score is 150% and my own Country NL 145 % because of high production level and exports. Germany and NL profit the most: They are the EU production locomotives. @EPPGroup

Old story pops up: take the European Social Fund (ESF) out of the Cohesion and Regional Funds (ESI)? My opinion: don’t do that. Social is part of the structural Investment in kwowledge and Infrastructure. NO separate isolation, but synergies. @EPP @cdaeuropa @CorinaCretuEU
