Bad decision. Tech platforms have a responsibility to respect human rights, with horrific effects when they fail to do so. Twitter will have to play by EU rules, and on Monday I’ll be proposing tech as a high-risk sector in upcoming EU Human Rights #duediligence legislation.

Ik mag eindelijk mijn rapporteurschap aankondigen op het Europese richtlijnvoorstel Due Diligence namens de commissie @EPSocialAffairs. We gaan hard werken aan een duurzame en rechtvaardige transitie van de sociale markteconomie in Europa.

Qatar moet de aanleiding zijn om in de toekomst stevige voorwaarden vast te leggen voor (het uitreiken van) grote eindtoernooien. Dat biedt meteen ook veel meer houvast voor hoe de Nederlandse overheid, de KNVB en het bedrijfsleven met organiserende landen omgaan. 2/3

Today, @HeidiHautala and I met with new Chair of the Regulatory Scrutiny Board Rytis Martikonis and fellow RSB members. We had a good, thorough and frank conversation on the RSB’s mandate, its impact assessment on #duediligence and the broader “better regulation” agenda.

Beter laat dan nooit: 👍 Tevreden met de voorstellen van de @EU_Commission van vandaag om Europese bedrijven te beschermen tegen oneerlijke concurrentie door bedrijven gefinancierd met staatssteun door landen van buiten de EU🇪🇺, met name China🇨🇳.

We urgently need transparency on who ultimately receives EU agricultural money. Proper scrutiny is impossible without this information. The 🇪🇺 Commission must create a publicly accessible database that allows us to check, compare and claw back if needed. 3/4

Dankzij de #bouwproductenverordening worden geharmoniseerde regels vastgelegd voor bouwproducten in de EU🇪🇺.
Het is schandalig dat bedrijven van buiten de EU met staatssteun EU-bedrijven beconcurreren. Daarom: #DueDiligence regels op deze verordening toepassen!

We moeten af van de camera's van Hikvision in het parlement. Hikvision is een Chinees bedrijf dat ook surveillantieapparatuur zou leveren voor de dwangkwampen voor #oeigoeren. Onacceptabel met zo'n bedrijf in zee te gaan, vond gelukkig ook de budgetcontrolecommissie. zich. 3/4

Goed nieuws vandaag. En toch ook wrang: "het moederbedrijf, de Brits-Nederlandse multinational Shell, is volgens het hof niet aansprakelijk". Daarom zijn nieuwe #duediligence regels zo broodnodig. #imvo

Ondertussen in de rechtbank: #Shell zegt dat de VN mensenrechten, niet bindend zijn voor bedrijven als Shell. Er staat alleen dat bedrijven mensenrechten moeten respecteren. Maar daar zijn geen juridische consequenties aan verbonden #Klimaatzaakshell #ookjouwzaak

Mooi, dit initiatief. Ook het Europees Parlement vindt dat de tijd van vrijwillige standaarden voor bedrijven voorbij is. Ik schrijf op dit moment een EU-initiatiefwet met bindende gedragsregels. Hieronder meer!#MandatoryDueDiligence #duediligence

"Nu bedrijven weten dat ze altijd gered zullen worden, zullen ze alleen maar roekelozer worden". Terechte waarschuwing in de @volkskrant. Er zijn regels nodig die grote bedrijven verplicht een slechtetijdenbuffer op te bouwen. #buffereconomie #duediligence
