Finally the Commission takes #Poland to the EU Court for lack of independence of Constitutional Tribunal and its rejection of primacy of EU law. Hopefully a case against the National Council of the Judiciary will follow.

If true, it would be appalling. The Polish bill doesn’t meet the requirements for independent judiciary. Concessions to the rule of law in Poland in exchange for securing the rule of law in Hungary would be unacceptable. We have called for urgent clarification by the Commission.

Extremely disappointing that only one government abstained. Historic mistake! The so called ‘milestones’ will - even if completely met, which will not happen - are totally insufficient to restore #RuleOfLaw in Poland.

And it’s official: Hungary blocks minimum tax at EU level. By giving in to Poland's wish for money in exchange for the lifting of its veto, @vonderleyen has invited this onto herself.
The conclusion is clear, haggling with the Rule of Law never pays off.

No easy answers, but it is crucial that despite @EU_Commission decision this week, not a single € will be paid to Poland before 100% compliance with all #CJEU rulings. @Europarl_EN has to make crystal clear that it will no longer support a Commission that damages the rule of law

Two big revelations coming out of QT with @vonderleyen today.

1. Rule of Conditionality is triggered to prevent Orbán from using EU funds to rig Hungarian elections.

2. She will *not* release the recovery funds to Poland when she travels there on 9 April.
