Yesterday I spoke on @euronews about our international trade system. The pandemic and the Suez canal blockage show the weakness of global supply chains. Firms must store more of their goods closer to home, or consider other opportunities like producing more locally.

@ReginaIplau China does not really understanding the concept of Democracy unfortunately. For the western countries it is best to understand trade with China should be schaled down. And seeing you in hard talk convinced me Hong Kong may be lost too.

Workers’ rights should be protected at all costs.
It is unacceptable that S Korea is not upholding the labour commitments in their trade agreement with the EU. Today I asked the #CTEO how the @EU_Commission will react to these findings. Follow-up actions are needed!

Much talk of trade & fish these day, but what about data protection laws? If no adequacy decision by 1/1/21, data transfers should be suspended. Adequacy is far from being assured, but @EU_Commission & member states seem hell bent on data flows continuing regardless

Therefore, the ultimate goal should always be a comprehensive agreement, reflecting our close relationship.

'Casually' hinting at a no deal #Brexit outcome (the EU and Australia currently don't have a trade deal) is unwise @BorisJohnson, when negotiations are ongoing and the EU is ready to put in the work to make a deal - a fair deal! - possible. Time to get back to it👇
