The European Commission has experienced first-hand why transparency matters, as it pushed for insight into the AstraZeneca contract. Then why is the Commission itself so obstinately secretive towards Parliament and journalists in almost all matters?

The @EU_Commission's @DejmekHack tells us that Brexit doesn't need to lead to a race to the bottom. The accord means the UK should stick to OECD standards on tax and can't move back on EU standards on transparency and exchange of information. Now it's all about implementation. ✅

There is a gap. Between what citizens want and what politicians deliver. To bridge this gap we need transparency. Scrutiny and accountability are an essential part of democracy. Therefore, the resolution also calls for democratic standards to be obeyed. ✊[5/7]

The worst tax haven, the Cayman Islands, has been removed from the list. Give the list teeth with strict criteria, and make it bite with defensive measures: no country without corporate taxes or with a very low effective tax rate should be allowed to go free. 🚫[4/7]

CbC reporting requires multinationals to publish info on profits, costs and taxes in each country they operate. Currently they are only obliged to report global profits as a grouped sum. More transparency allows us to hold companies that shift profits to tax havens accountable 🔍
