Pleased to see @RenewEurope reinforcing the @TheProgressives’ initiated call for a full investigation into Mr Várhelyi.

Orbán’s Commissioner cannot be allowed to run roughshod through the Western Balkans.

@vonderleyen must suspend Mr Varhelyi’s activities until results are in.

I was one of those idiots asking Commissioner Varhelyi to sanction Dodiks alignment with Putin and to further accession talks with NM. Last year, the Parliament called for an investigation into this Commissioner’s functioning. High time to take it up ourselves.

That’s right. With 357 in favour, 180 against and 95 abstentions, the European Parliament adopted my call on the Commission to investigate Commissioner Várhelyi over his conduct in the Western Balkans.

Yesterday, the Parliament repeated our earlier call for an investigation into Commissioner Várhelyi.

To regain trust in the Balkans, a credible and impartial Commissioner for enlargement is key.

In mijn interventie benoemde ik dit als een gemiste kans👇🏼en eerlijk gezegd was het gewoon heel verdrietig. Ook de gedachtenwisselingen eerder met zowel @OHR_BiH, @eubih en commissaris Varhelyi maakten duidelijk hoe complex en zorgelijk de situatie is. ⤵️

Very worrying news from Bosnia and Herzegovina today. Commissioner Varhelyi cannot permit himself any (new) hint or suggestion that he is serving other interests or agenda’s than the EU’s and the 🇧🇦 people’s. This is clearly not helpful at all! (1/2)

A month ago, Hungarian PM Orbán promised Dodik that he would help him with €1 billion for RS. It now becomes clear that this would be funded from the EU-budget. This demonstrates that Várhelyi is not a true European Commissioner. (2/3)

Eurocommissaris Oliver Varhelyi geeft de regio geen eerlijk perspectief met zijn uitspraken over individuele landen relativeren #RuleOfLaw aspecten. Daarmee dient hij, zo lijkt het, niet het belang vd EU en mensen daar, maar vooral van zijn politieke vriend Viktor Orban. - 3/x

We⁩ gave Varhelyi the benefit of the doubt because he clearly distanced himself from Orbáns foreign policy. Not putting this written position into practice. His unacceptable partiality is completely against interest of the people of the Western Balkans. politico.eu/article/oliver­…­

De Hongaarse kandidaat-eurocommissaris Várhelyi geeft op mijn vraag toe dat een land waar de regering oppositiepartijen onderdrukt, de media controleert, rechters met pensioen dwingt en minderheden discrimineert, géén lid zou kunnen worden van de EU.

Morgenochtend ga ik kandidaat Commissaris #várhelyi aan de tand voelen over zijn rule of law meetlat bij kandidaat lidstaten. Vorig jaar nog was hij furieus over het Sargentini rapport. Orban had immers de verkiezingen gewonnen, dus was er niets mis met de rechtsstaat.....
