Really happy with today's ITRE (@EP_Industry) vote on the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED)!⚡️
I want to congratulate my colleague @NielsFuglsang on the result that:
- Increases the 2030 energy efficiency target to 40 %🔋
- Improves the energy savings obligation.📊

! Much faster than what the Commission is proposing and without additional LNG terminals. Key is higher ambitions on renewables and energy efficiency in EU’s laws. Commission should act on it fast.

Prediction: Member States will fight this compensation because of competence issues, nevertheless Commission pushes through on this mini-ETS (hence a meaningless compromise) and everyone loses political energy at the cost of important sectoral legislation on cars and efficiency.

@trias_politica Het verschil zit vooral in de efficiency: nu moeten bijv ets-inkomsten die de EU int, verdeeld worden over EU-landen; die dan weer uit hun begroting geld overmaken aan de EU; met politiek gekonkel en gevecht. Over verspilling gesproken....
