Het verplaatsen van het #EPPCongress is enorm balen voor alle deelnemers, de organisatieteams in Brussel en Nederland, en natuurlijk de honderden @cdavandaag- en @CDJA-vrijwilligers. Maar uitstel is geen afstel: volgend jaar maken we er gewoon een nog groter @EPP-feest van!

@tomjanmeeus Duitsland heeft ook grote corruptie problemen en de CDU ook. Binnen het EP zijn ze (EPP) dé tegenkracht van allen die de corruptie binnen EU instituties willen bestrijden. Dat bleek ook deze week weer. De bijlage zegt meer over het gebrek aan kritisch vermogen van de NRC.

If I understand correctly @ManfredWeber wants to run both @EPPGroup and @EPP at the same time. “Separation of powers” is clearly a non-issue for EPP. (I have some thoughts on it: issuu.com/scentofwildani…)

At the last elections the 3 biggest political groups, agreed to divide the EP mandate between @TheProgressives & the @EPPGroup. With the midterms approaching at the end of the year, the EPP Group is today starting the process to designate our candidate to the EP Presidency.

@BramDhooghe @DirkGotink Dat de Duitse EPP’ers alles doen om Biontech te beschermen is ergens nog te begrijpen, maar waarom de rest hierin meegaat 🤷🏻♂️. Zou het niet goed zijn als Biontech de miljoenen staatssteun terug zou betalen, als geste? Risico’s ontwikkeling van veel vaccins deels publiek gedekt.

Enorm trots dat het CDA in november het @EPP Congress te gast heeft. Ik kijk er naar uit onze Europese collega's in Rotterdam te mogen verwelkomen en samen met hen ons nieuwe 'values document' te kunnen aannemen. #EPPRotterdam
De @EPP heeft bekend gemaakt dat het CDA het EPP Congress op 16, 17 en 18 november in Rotterdam mag hosten, mits de coronamaatregelen het toelaten. #EPPRotterdam

Good that Fidesz is no longer in @EPPGroup, but it took too long. Still several of Orbán’s allies remain. EPP has to start reflecting: do they want to go down the same path as the US Republicans, or will they clean up their house and remain a responsible centrist party?

Sounds like the CDU will continue to *not* make a decision on the EPP’s most haunting question. Asked whether Fidesz risks exclusion, Laschet told ZDF: “That will be a difficult question to negotiate ... The EPP has clear conditions and we will demand Orbán [to respect them].”

Don’t forget it is not Orban that prevents the @EPPGroup from expelling Fidesz. It is the majority of EPP members. Orbans allies and his enablers.

There are so many good, decent @EPPGroup members, but they are unable to change the @EPPGroup from the inside. They should draw their conclusions and leave a group that doesn’t represent their values.

#Hungary PM #Orban wrote a letter to #Weber (another 1) in which he proposes a new form of cooperation between the @EPPGroup and #Fidesz. He wants to go back to the EPP-ED model when the tory MEPs were allied members of the Group. But they didn’t belong to the political family...

This is where ten years of appeasement of @fidesz by @EPPGroup got us. @EPPGroup going down the same road as the US Republican Party, enabling extremists, then taken over by them step by step. If Fidesz cannot be kicked out, decent members should leave the EPP.
