👮🏻‍♂️GDPR’s little sister also celebrating this month: the Directive protecting our data when used by police or judiciary. She too would like to get 🎁:

-implementation by all Member States
-aligning other EU legal acts with this Directive. Report was due May 2019

📔 detailed evaluation report and immediate action after 10 June: the @EU_Commission should finally act and start infringement procedures against member states not providing sufficient resources and abusing GDPR. People deserve to be protected by a law with teeth, no paper tiger

💶 more resources: privacy watchdogs are systematically underfunded by national govs. How can they tackle big tech’s malicious practices if their combined budget is only €325m, equal to just Facebook EU’s revenue in 7.5 days?

Good to keep in mind that the Irish Data Protection Authority is basically acting as the European Watchdog, on behalf of all of us. So this is not a local matter. (and @maxschrems is doing a better job at #GDPR enforcement than most of the data protection authorities....)

Laten we nu eerst zorgen dat het zorgpersoneel voldoende mondkapjes heeft voordat we het volgende fiasco introduceren. Een app zonder dat we weten wie corona drager is (dus testcapaciteit), is sowieso zinloos. rtlnieuws.nl/tech/artikel/­5…­

@mathijsbouman Tuurlijk! Wie niet. Maar dan wel vrijwillig, en graag zó dat je data veilig zijn, niet voor een ander toegankelijk en vernietigd als de crisis achter de rug is. Het best is als de regeringen volledige openheid geven over die programma's.

Als iets te mooi klinkt om waar te zijn, is het meestal ook niet waar. Ook in dit geval. De druk is enorm om een achterdeurtje in het systeem te bouwen, zodat data toch niet definitief anoniem zijn. Morgen parlementaire vragen indienen over PEPP-PT. nrc.nl/nieuws/2020/04…

But each measure will still have to meet the “necessity and proportionality” requirement and contain all necessary safeguards.As stated clearly in the @EU_EDPS opinion

The @EU_Commission seems eager to declare the UK government adequate to handle our data. I asked them to reconsider that position, after recent breaches of trust.

Furthermore, the Commission must not lose sight of the agreed upon protection of citizens’ rights. #Brexit

The UK government is behaving like a bunch of cowboys with its illegal use of the #Schengen Information System.

If this deliberate violation is not immediately addressed by @EU_Commission, the UK will need to be disconnected from Schengen data after Brexit🚫

Ik snap dat marktpartijen graag schaalgrootte en toegang willen, maar er is ook zoiets als strategisch belang en soevereiniteit.

Data is de nieuwe olie en Nederland/Europa moet niet een soort Saoedi-Arabië voor data worden aan een Amerikaanse leiband.

Achter de schermen staat onze privacy in de uitverkoop. EU-landen willen warme banden met Washington. Dus als de Amerikaanse overheid zegt “spring”, dan vragen ze in nationale hoofdsteden: “hoe hoog?”

Ook de Europese Commissie moet ruggengraat kweken, als ze dealen met de VS.
