Vorige maand stonden 24 hulpverleners, waaronder Pieter Wittenberg, terecht op Lesbos voor het bieden van noodhulp aan vluchtelingen. Dit is niet alleen in strijd met internationale verplichtingen, maar zendt ook de gevaarlijke boodschap dat medemenselijkheid wordt bestraft. 1/3

Very interesting meeting with the 🇸🇳 border police.
They expressed their concerns about #Frontex involvement in pushbacks at EU borders, and rightfully posed the question what guarantees they will have that Frontex will respect human rights when acting on Senegalese territory.

Ondanks de systematische rapporten over pushbacks van vluchtelingen door o.a. #Frontex, stemde het Europarlement net in met het uitzenden van EU-grenswachten naar Noord-Macedonië. En dat is vragen om problemen.

@Frontex EU taxpayer money is being used to carry out these illegal pushbacks. This is a clear violation of EU funding rules. The EU Commission needs to explain how this could happen and must exercise proper scrutiny over its 100s of millions of border and migration management funding.

We are in the midst of a human rights crisis at our borders.
The findings by OLAF confirm what we already knew: Frontex has been covering up pushbacks.

@Frontex De Europese Commissie mag niet langer wegkijken van deze #pushbacks en moet het uitkeren van EU-geld voorwaardelijk maken aan de bescherming van mensen die vluchten voor oorlog en geweld.

In Griekenland ga ik, samen met andere Groene collega’s, onder andere in gesprek met ngo’s, @Frontex en de Griekse minister van Asielzaken. Daarnaast bezoeken we het opvang- en detentiecentrum Fylakio.

Next week, I will be in Greece to further assess the pushbacks, rights violations and silencing of critical voices. The LIBE committee also invited the NL and BE to explain their deteriorated reception conditions. All MS must respect the right to asylum and share responsibility.

At the #SOTEU, solidarity with Ukranian refugees was praised, but EC and EUCO stay silent as thousands of refugees are being pushed back. Meanwhile asylum seekers are forced to sleep outside because countries fail to organize themselves. This race to the bottom is unacceptable.

Maatregel #3: Tijdelijk geen jaarlijkse overname 1000 vluchtelingen uit kampen in Turkije.
Nederland toont zich zeer onbetrouwbare partner naar EU en lidstaten en lokt nog meer pervers gedrag uit over de ruggen van mensen. /6

@StasJenV Beste Eric, je zei dat de wachttermijn voor nareis 'echte vluchtelingen' niet raakt, want 'die kunnen zelf naar Nederland komen'. Hoe? Moeten vrouwen en kinderen in een wankel bootje stappen, met gevaar voor verdrinking en pushbacks? Wil je smokkel en illegale migratie?

Langs hele gezamenlijke 🇪🇺 zuidgrens zijn zulke verhalen elke dag op te tekenen. Elke dag. ‘Weghouden’ van mensen was afgelopen jaren hoofddoel van Nederlands regeringsbeleid ipv anticiperen op behoefte humane opvang, Europees illegale #pushbacks tegengaan en solidariteit tonen.

Dit is uiteindelijk de logische consequentie van het buitengrenzenbeleid van de EU, dat erop is gericht het asielzoekers zo moeilijk mogelijk te maken het grondgebied van 'n EU-lidstaat te bereiken.

Yesterday, I told the Greek Prime Minister that covering up evidence of pushbacks won’t work. Evidence is recorded by UN bodies, NGOs and investigative journalists. European judges refuse to accept a reality that violates core EU values.

Quite a challenge to take the Greek minister seriously, as long as he disqualifies the consistent reports on pushbacks by UN- and Council of Europe bodies as Turkish propaganda. And if he refuses to investigate pushbacks, but criminalises NGOs rescuing and helping the victims

Toeval bestaat niet: op mijn vlucht naar Zagreb tref ik Eefje Blankenvoort, maker van ‘Shadowgame’ over pushbacks aan EU buitengrenzen, en twee jongens die het meemaken in deze film. Op tournee in Kroatië, Slovenië en Raad van Europa, om te pleiten voor mensenrechten. Zet ‘m op!
