Ontslag Frontex directeur Leggeri is eerste stap om mensenrechten hoog op de agenda te krijgen in het Agentschap. Nu grondige wijziging structuur en cultuur Frontex. Maar ook lidstaten en Commissie moeten hun verantwoordelijkheid nemen om pushbacks effectief uit te bannen.

Adviesorgaan @ACVZ_advies waarschuwt: Wegkijken van betrokkenheid lidstaten en EU bij pushbacks kan NL op worden aangesproken. Morgen spreken we in het parlement met de @EU_Commission over onwenselijke en onnodige uitzondering Polen, Letland en Litouwen.

@FranckenTheo @groenlinks @deafspraaktv De praktijk aan de grens met Belarus is dat er geen toegang is tot asiel waardoor al 10 mensen zijn overleden in niemandsland.

Met pushbacks los je deze geopolitieke crisis niet op, sancties voor Loekasjenko kunnen dat wel.

2. Even Frontex does not allow its own Fundamental Rights Monitors access into the area, which means they can’t monitor potential human rights violations.

Observations:

1. The actors that are supposed to safeguard the human rights on the European side are not allowed into the border zones at all in Polen, and only some parts on Lithuanian borders. ⤵ (2/6)

Many concerns on dire situation at Lithuanian immigration detention centres and the ongoing legalisation of pushbacks by government.

Just as in Poland, NGO's also mention the necessity to quickly ensure access to border area.

@thijsreuten Vluchtelingen zitten hierdoor vast in een bos zonder voedsel, medische hulp en onderdak. Humanitaire organisaties, advocaten en journalisten hebben tot nu toe geen toegang gekregen tot dit gebied. Minstens zeven vluchtelingen zijn overleden sinds augustus. (3/4)

The asylum seekers are trapped in a densely wooded area with no food, medical care or shelter from dropping temperatures.

Humanitarian organisations, lawyers and journalists do not get access to many of the asylum seekers in immediate need of help. ⤵(3/4)
