So yet again journalists reveal scandalous pushbacks, whereby unrecognisable 'officials' even shot migrants to force them back across borders.

And these 'operations' are partly funded by the EU (!)

@EU_Commission take responsibility and put an immediate end to these practices.

@EU_Commission moet migratiefondsen naar deze landen acuut stopzetten tot deze schendingen van mensenrechten zijn beëindigd. (1/2)

I urged the Board to thoroughly examine the human rights compliance of its operations and to assure quick follow-up on our report's recommendations.

One month ago on initiative of @RobertBiedron and myself, we asked👇🏼simply to let humanitarian aid get to 32 Afghans trapped between borders and to ask the other EU-26 for help. It only got worse; pushbacks, prolonged state of emergency. Today we’ll speak with @EU_Commission 1/2

Verschrikkelijk! Illegale pushbacks, groepjes al weken klem in niemandsland. Symbolen van ons morele falen. Poolse regering moet gedwongen worden regels nu na te leven of hulp vragen. Andere lidstaten en @EU_Commission moeten stoppen routineus weg te kijken en helpen. Nu!

➡️Mensen weg uit niemandsland
➡️Polen en andere landen helpen, dus zonodig mensen overnemen
➡️Toegang tot asielprocedure en humane opvang
➡️Zonodig handhaving door Commissie

Ongelooflijke taferelen van de Britse kustwacht. Mensen hebben recht op eerlijke procedures voor asiel, arbeidsmigratie of terugkeer. Door de inzet van pushbacks treden landen volledig buiten de rechtsstaat én spelen ze met levens.

@YlvaJohansson The European migration policy can and must be improved, it will only succeed if countries divide the responsibility for asylum seekers fairly and all pushbacks come to an end.

@YlvaJohansson Het Europese vluchtelingenbeleid kan en moet beter, dat lukt alleen als landen de verantwoordelijkheid voor asielzoekers eerlijk verdelen en er een einde komt aan pushbacks.

❗ Zojuist heb ik de bevindingen van het onderzoek naar Frontex gepresenteerd. Belangrijkste conclusie: het EU-agentschap keek bewust weg bij meldingen van pushbacks aan Europa’s buitengrenzen en heeft een grondige reorganisatie nodig. Meer ⤵ (1/4)

Hulporganisatie @AzG_nl trekt zich terug uit Libische opvangkampen waar - mede door illegale Europese pushbacks - duizenden migranten vastzitten in mensonterende omstandigheden. Zij roepen de EU op om migranten snel te evacueren naar veiligere centra. #Libya #StopPushbacks (1/2)

During the final Frontex hearing just now, I asked the Exec. Director how he intends to follow up on the #pushbacks in Greece. According to him, Frontex already followed up.

Apparently for @Frontex a denial by the Greek authorities is sufficient to ensure accountability.

Nieuw rapport Amnesty laat zien dat pushbacks in Griekenland aan de orde van de dag zijn: op brute wijze worden migranten en vluchtelingen opgepakt en uitgezet.

More cases documented by @AmnestyEU of highly unlawful pushbacks, with Frontex at least partly responsible or even directly involved. This must stop! The right to apply for asylum and to be treated in a safe and humane way may never be violated at 🇪🇺 borders. #endpushbacks

Vragen op intitiatief van mijn Spaanse collega @DomenecD over de middelen die aan Europese buitengrenzen worden ingezet. Grensbewaking mag in geen geval leiden tot het verhinderen van een verzoek tot asiel of het schenden van grondrechten van vluchtelingen. #pushbacks

De EU kan niet geloofwaardig spreken over mensenrechten als het pushbacks blijft toestaan.
De Commissie moet optreden tegen deze schendingen van internationaal recht en álle EU-landen moeten verantwoordelijkheid nemen voor het Europese asielbeleid.

De pushbacks zijn na bewezen misstanden bij #Frontex ook voor Griekse grensbewaking staande praktijk geworden legt @bramvermeul bloot voor #frontlinie. Dit kan niet. Hoe mensen ook aan een 🇪🇺 grens komen ze dienen humaan en correct te worden behandeld.

Pushbacks aan de Europese buitengrenzen kosten mensenlevens en moeten nu stoppen. Frontex is opgericht om onze grenzen te beschermen, maar ook de mensenrechten van vluchtelingen die daar aankloppen voor asiel. In dit filmpje meer over wat er nu niet goed gaat. (1/4)

De druk op Griekenland neemt toe, steeds meer partijen zijn overtuigd van de illegale pushbacks die daar dagelijks plaatsvinden.

Goed dat de Raad van Europa zich hier nu ook over uitspreekt en hoog tijd dat de @EU_Commission dit ook gaat doen!

In de justitie commissie werden zojuist meerdere #pushbacks met data precies onderbouwd, met dank aan t goede werk van @klaasvandijken en @stluedke. Het niet afleggen van verantwoordelijkheid begint al bij categoriseren van incidenten, als dat al gebeurt. Dit moet stoppen! (1/2)

According to the journalists, it is beyond doubt that Frontex knows about the pushbacks by the Greek coastguard, and sometimes even facilitates them. They call this complicity.

+1Productive meetings with the Greek Ombudsman and ngo’s on human rights violations at the borders. We need independent investigations to ensure accountability for pushbacks. Current reporting and monitoring systems are not sufficient.

Investigation by @guardian reveals that EU member states have pushed back at least 40.000 asylum seekers, resulting in 2000 deaths. Pushbacks are illegal and a violation of the fundamental rights of those most in need of help. This needs to stop.

🇪🇺Parliament postponed granting discharge to the budget of @Frontex. Frontex should follow up on Parliament's investigations into mismanagement and pushbacks before discharge can be granted.
