‘Ze gingen schaamteloos voor het geld’. Ja dit wisten we en daarom moesten we in het Europees Parlement vooral niet pleiten voor #TRIPSwaiver als het aan de #BigPharma lag. Blij dat we uiteindelijk toch wél een meerderheid meekregen. Wat een schande. ad.nl/buitenland/eno…

There really isn’t any logic in spending 10 trillion dollars (!) supporting economies, while by spending 50 billion dollars (!) we could vaccinate the world.

With @BasEickhout I call on the @eucommission and Council to stop blocking the #TRIPSWaiver at the WTO.

We need to vaccinate the world.
Only 6% of people in Africa are fully vaccinated. The EU cannot accept that our twin continent is left behind. We must do more as EU to assist countries in getting vaccines to people.

Also missing: ‘flexible’ compulsory licensing. No it’s not my preference but compulsory licensing was @EU_Commission’s alternative for the #TRIPSwaiver and even on this: no progress. Maybe it’s time @EU_Commission considers *all* available options since this is not nearly enough.

SA asked for access to vaccine patents in oct 2020 (!) It is easy to cancel flights but much more useful to temporarily waive patents. Increase global distribution and then we really help South Africans & the world. #TRIPSwaiver

Het wordt steeds duidelijker waar de eventuele belangen liggen. En dan te bedenken dat deze bedrijven zogenaamd niet meer willen innoveren als we de patenten op vaccins tijdelijk opschorten voor de strijd tegen COVID-19 pandemie. Wat een lef. #TRIPSWaiver ftm.nl/artikelen/vacc…

Vroeg uit de veren om bij @WNLVandaag te praten over vaccins. Meer produceren, exporteren en doneren is de snelste manier om wereldwijd vaccins in bovenarmen te krijgen, juist in landen die het nu het hardst nodig hebben. #TRIPSwaiver

Goed nieuws! Het Europees Parlement heeft voor het amendement voor een #TRIPSwaiver gestemd. Door de licenties vrij te geven kunnen meer vaccins geproduceerd worden en kunnen we de pandemie wereldwijd sneller aanpakken.

De nieuwe vaccincontracten zijn onze mogelijkheid om farmaceuten hun kennis te laten delen.
Het verdienmodel van farmaceuten mag geen belemmering zijn voor een zo snel mogelijke wereldwijde vaccinatie.

Vorige week stemden de Groenen @GreensEFA ook al voor een amendement over het vrijgeven van patenten. Hopelijk volgen andere fracties ook snel, zodat we we net als de VS voor een #tripswaiver kunnen pleiten als EU.

The US was one of the last countries to ask for a #TRIPSwaiver. Apparently the calls of all the other countries, who are still desperately waiting for vaccines, weren't heard. If global vaccination is really the priority, the EU supports the waiver as well.

Covid19 kunnen we niet in ons uppie bestrijden. Farmaceuten moeten hun kennis over de vaccins delen, zodat we snel, en overal in de wereld, de productie kunnen opschalen. @EU_Commission moet stoppen met het blokkeren van #TRIPSwaiver #noprofitonpandemic
