EU must ensure that in all dialogues with Turkey, the topic of jailed MPs, including Demirtas, is part of the conversation. Would also be good if EU Commissioner for Human Rights would request a visit. I hope he'll be set free soon, just as the other MPs. #EPTurkey

I certainly hope so! Only couple of criteria left to be fulfilled by Turkish government for this to become a reality - but not much work has been done on that during last months. The anti-terror law in Turkey is much too broadly defined. #EPTurkey

Women are often first victims of authoritarian policies. Time male leaders in Turkey (but also in Hungary!) start respecting them as full citizens and potential voters, rather than only mothers and housewives. #EPTurkey

The EP represents EU voters - we take positions on important topics, such as Turkey's accession process. My expectation is that in two weeks a large majority of the EP will vote for the suspension of accession talks w/ Turkey, as EP Foreign Affairs cttee did today. #EPTurkey

The Commission will present its Turkey report on 29 May. So far, they have not taken the position of asking for formal suspension. In the Council there seems to be also no willingness so far to take that step. #EPTurkey

True observation on the rising power of Turkey´s Directorate of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) which every year enjoys a higher share in the national budget. The activities of Diyanet are not limited only within Turkey. Their officials are also active in Germany/other EU countries.

At the Paris Peace Forum I spoke to journalist @CandundarCan whose wife is unable to leave #Turkey because her passport has been revoked. There are no charges against her. Family is used as pawn, and lives are destroyed. It is an embarrassment that this goes on!
