In a post-paternalistic world you can’t negotiate a trade deal without a mandate from the European Parliament.

We are only 7% of the world’s population. A rules-based and values-based global order is the best defence of Europe’s interests.

Any future European Commission has an obligation to minimise the risk of the US slapping tariffs on European products. Because these tariffs would have an immediate impact on European jobs.

Trade deals were traditionally dealt with by politicians with little public attention. But all that has changed. People now pay very close attention to the impacts on health, on jobs, on the environment. And rightly so.

There is a feeling in society that people are not being treated fairly compared to big corporations when it comes to taxation.

We should include housing in these investments. We need to help young people get on the housing ladder and we also need to adapt the housing stock to support the needs of an aging population.

I’m not pessimistic about economic growth in Europe. There is huge potential in the circular economy. There is huge potential to improve productivity. There is huge potential to harness the digital revolution.

We have to prove that a different society is possible. We need steps forward on fiscal policy and on social policy, so that all Europeans feel there's a place for them in the society that we're becoming.

In a world where companies have more economic power than some countries, we need new economic tools and we need to act together.
