Maar nu ook druk maximaliseren! Sancties verscherpen, regime Belarus geheel isoleren. Deze man is onberekenbaar en meedogenloos. Ruimte om tot in onze lidstaten aan toe en in Kiev mensen te achtervolgen en te doden en weerloze migranten de grens over te jagen is onaanvaardbaar.

Daags na de staatskaping in mei sprak ik met Ales Biliatski van @viasna96 Hij is een aantal weken geleden ook opgepakt en zit nog steeds vast. Een van de vele voorbeelden van dappere mensen in Belarus, mede-Europeanen, die gewoon een land willen, vrijheid en democratie. (4/x)

Sinds eind mei zijn nog honderden andere journalisten en activisten toegevoegd aan de lange lijst politieke gevangenen. De atlete in Japan is gelukkig opgevangen door Polen, maar de moord op Vitaly Shishov is -daar twijfel ik niet aan- de jongste gruweldaad van het regime. (3/x)

Om met die vraag te beginnen: Loekasjenko voelt de druk, dat is zeker. Maar hij heeft, zo blijkt, met zijn regime nog veel teveel ruimte en vrijheid en is meedogenloos. Levensgevaarlijk voor de burgers van Belarus binnen- en buiten het land en ook gevaarlijk voor ons. (2/x)

Vitaly Shishov was leading an NGO in 🇺🇦 supporting those who fled Belarus. But he was not safe outside Belarus either. We have to do much more to further isolate the relentless regime in Minsk and to stand with all Belarusians! My thoughts are with Vitaly’s family and friends.

🙏🏼 Poland for assisting and protecting the brave Krystsina Tsimanouskaya. It’s indeed an act of transnational repression. Unfortunately many athletes didn’t even make it to the Olympics because Lukashenka also uses sports to suppress criticism and to spread terror and fear. (1/2)

@StemMorgen Belarus is sowieso al van de mensen zelf en niet van welke regering of dictator ook. De oppositie gebruikt de kortere hashtag zelf ook. Maar snap je punt.
