As Europeans are desperate for some freedom, the proposal for a #digital-green-pass is most welcome. @Europarl_EN must work fast and adopt on time for summer break, but not give in to massive behind-the-scenes pressure to just sign on the dotted line and adopt already next week

The backsliding media freedom in Poland, Hungary and Slovenia cannot remain unpunished. The European Commission needs to adress the hostile environment for journalists in these EU countries. Without free media, a real democracy simply cannot function.

It seems we’ll have this new Envoy only due to a conservative & @EPPGroup lobby. We need assurances that the Envoy is not just going to cater to them.

Over the years, press freedom in Hungary has been rapidly deteriorating. In 2016 and 2018, the @EU_Commission received two complaints but did not respond.

➡️ Sanctions without targeting Lukashenko would be a slap in the face of Belarusians.
➡️ Demanding new, free elections only logical when declaring 9 August polls ‘not free, nor fair’

EU leaders must get serious about defending freedom.

A lot of achievements of today, were “never-never” once. Many of them relating to democracy, the rule of law, human rights, equality, freedom and peace. Throwing the towel never got us anywhere. Pitching an idea is the first step.

Freedom of speech wordt door Trump beschermd. Heel goed. Het debat hoort bij een gezonde democratie. Progressief of conservatief, iedereen moet zijn of haar mening mogen en kunnen geven. De #EU moet hier een voorbeeld aan nemen.

@Ruben_Wassink As long as we are willing to fight for it. And values have no national passport. Different convictions can be found in any country. For me Europe must be the place for equality, freedom, an open mind, diversity, solidarity.

When EU promotes freedom of religion and belief #FoRB it should be inclusive and thus also protect non-believers. Associating mainly with ultra conservative Christians undermines EU human rights commitments. I wrote @JuttaUrpilainen to insist on this, together with colleagues👇

This is my maiden speech in the European Parliament about LGBTI-rights in Poland. Freedom to be who you are, is under threat since local authorities are trying to create LGBTI-free zones.

Everyone has the right to grow up in a society where they are loved and respected. 💚
