Since last summer, asylum seekers have been stuck at the border between Belarus and Europe.

Poland, Lithuania and Latvia are pushing these asylum seekers back at their borders. By doing so, they are breaking European and international law. ⤵(2/4)

Empty threat. Climate targets have been enshrined in European law, with the support of Poland. Current negotiations are on implementation of those targets. Those laws will be adopted by qualified majority. If Poland is not at the table, the Polish demands will not be heard.

Wrong frame: EU doesn't push against Poland, the Polish government pushes against the EU. Independence of the judiciary and primacy of EU law are not negotiable. Excessive tolerance for autocrats got us into this mess in the first place.

Één jaar na de anti-abortuswetgeving in Polen liegen de cijfers niet: Vrouwen wijken nu noodgedwongen uit naar buurlanden.

The EU should refrain from playing the same disgusting game that Lukashenko plays, using migrants as a geopolitical tool.

At the same time, we should take a hard look at Poland, Lithuania and Latvia, who're refusing refugees access to asylum procedures, water, shelter and food.

Over three weeks ago we asked Poland politely to respect fundamental rights and to ask for help if they themselves have problems dealing with asylum applications. This is unacceptable! A silent @EU_Commission and silent member states are responsible too.

However, the rule of law situation in Poland also shows us how far the RoL must deteriorate before the EU starts to act.

The Commission has to learn its lesson and react faster and more consistent to (indications of) rule of law violations. (2/2)

+1For 3 weeks now, 32 Afghans are stranded in Belarus-Poland borderland. Pushed by dictator Lukashenka. Circumstances deteriorating rapidly. Together with @RobertBiedron supported by 28 MEPs we call on 🇵🇱 PM @MorawieckiM to send aid and find lasting solution with other 🇪🇺countries.

🙏🏼 Poland for assisting and protecting the brave Krystsina Tsimanouskaya. It’s indeed an act of transnational repression. Unfortunately many athletes didn’t even make it to the Olympics because Lukashenka also uses sports to suppress criticism and to spread terror and fear. (1/2)

Just talking about the continued breakdown of #RuleofLaw in #Poland & #Hungary without acting is not enough. @EU_Commission must use all tools necessary against persistent violations of the rule of law and fundamental rights to prevent further damage to EU values & funds.
