Eurocommissaris Oliver Varhelyi geeft de regio geen eerlijk perspectief met zijn uitspraken over individuele landen relativeren #RuleOfLaw aspecten. Daarmee dient hij, zo lijkt het, niet het belang vd EU en mensen daar, maar vooral van zijn politieke vriend Viktor Orban. - 3/x

Goede beslissing. Was ook enige optie rond illegale tuchtkamer. Maar geen reden vlag uit te doen. Regering blijft van mening dat Europees recht niet boven Pools recht gaat en constitutioneel hof idem. Plus alle ontslagen rechters en alle andere zorgen over #RoL 🇵🇱 /via @NOS

Vandaag presenteerde de @EU_Commission het 2e #ruleoflaw rapport. Jaarlijks wordt de stand van de rechtsstaat in elk EU-land onder de loep genomen. Dit jaar met extra aandacht voor #freedomofpress - helaas broodnodig. Denk aan het toenemende geweld tegen journalisten (2/8)

De rechtstaat is geen ruilmiddel en leent zich niet voor inlegvelletjes en geitenpaadjes. De komende dagen is het dus oppassen: EU-lidstaten moeten voet bij stuk houden en niet toegeven aan de chantage van Orbán & bondgenoten.

U deed een beroep op het #EuropeesParlement om via de Rule of Law de duimschroeven aan te draaien bij onwelgevallige lidstaten. Ook regeringspartijen @cdavandaag en @D66 hamerde daarop. Iets met balk & splinter.

Goed dat er een akkoord is voor de nieuwe Europese langetermijnbegroting! En mooi dat het EP binnen kan halen wat de premiers nog niet lukte:
✅Meer geld voor onderzoek in #Horizon2020
✅Betere bewaking van de buitengrenzen
✅Beschermen van #RuleOfLaw in het #MFF

Mijlpaal in de Europese geschiedenis: we maken korte metten met subsidies voor regeringen die een loopje nemen met de rechtsstaat. Loon naar werken voor mijn collega @petrisarvamaa en zijn onderhandelingsteam. De nieuwe meerjarenbegroting komt zo steeds dichter bij. #RuleOfLaw

White smoke from the #RuleOfLaw trilogues. The EP and @EU2020DE have reached a historic deal for the EU. We have managed to secure a link between the use of EU funds and the respect for the rule of law in the Member States. Our goal was an effective mechanism & it is achieved.

We cannot longer stay silent to the numerous rule of law violations in Europe. It is time for political courage, to stand up against EU leaders who do not protect our European values of freedom and justice.
