This practice is a gross violation of international law. The EU needs to prioritize human rights in its relations with Turkey and condition EU migration related funding to the authorities upon strict compliance with non-refoulement of refugees.

ECtHR ordered the Greek authorities to provide assistance to Syrian refugees stranded on the islet of Evros but instead they pushed them back to Turkey. This blatant violation of international law and disrespect for European courts illustrate the rule of law crisis in Greece.

🔹 Last week EU-countries consolidated the EU-Turkey deal with new funding, without changing human rights- conditionalities.
🔹 Only last month Parliament voted in favour of putting human rights at the centre of #migrationdeals.

The Parliament discusses Turkish decision to withdraw from the Istanbul Convention. Is domestic violence part of the Turkish family traditions? This requires pressure upon Turkey, but also on the EU Member States which refuse to ratify the Treaty.

10 years of civil war in Syria; many people have died, cities are destroyed, hopes have vanished. Over half of Syrians lack food or shelter. Refugees can't go back, but can't build a future in Turkey, Lebanon or Jordan either. We need to take responsibility, in- and outside Syria
