The European Council flatly refuses to tackle the destruction of the rule of law. Unsurprising, as the main offenders are sitting on that same European Council. Even today, government leaders prefer to appease the autocrats, keeping the matter off the agenda.

President Von der Leyen is “concerned”, but has announced no action. @EU_Commission must do whatever it takes to halt the destruction of the rules of law. Anything less would be dereliction of duty, and would merit the ultimate political consequence.

@NOS Het is goed dat over dit issue vandaag wordt gedebatteerd. Het zou niet alleen over deze kwestie moeten gaan maar ook de strategie die sommige partijen in het Europees Parlement voorstaan. De harde lijn leidt niet tot een oplossing van de kwestie.

👉 Platforms bepalen wat wel of niet mag online.
👉 Bevoegde autoriteiten, zoals politie, hebben vaak weinig expertise of budget om goed op online geweld te reageren.

Bij harde brexiteers die met anti-Poolse xenofobie campagne voeren?

Bij de Polen-meldpunters van de PVV?

Met zulke vrienden heb je geen vijanden nodig.

Reminder: that so-called agreement was struck last year in the December Council where the EP immediately made clear that the Commission needs to follow any law once it is adopted. I am sure, the *yes, irony* Court of Justice will agree...

@nrc Tendentieuze kop. Het betreft hier fictief vermogen. Zoals dat van aandelen die in waarde stijgen maar nog niet verkocht zijn. Door een kop zo op te stellen draagt NRC bij aan de verspreiding van zogenaamd “nep-nieuws”.

This is exactly why development by Polish government is so dangerous. Claiming that the Court of Justice is moving competences to the EU-level is a pure lie. Judges are exactly following what is agreed in treaties. This frame is undermining trust in our judicial system.

Na 25 minuten vraagt de voorzitter of de Poolse premier wil afronden. Beschamend optreden en #respectloos ook naar Poolse volk. Deze regering speelt een spel met zijn land, juridische zekerheid - ook tegenover de staat - en grondrechten van zijn eigen volk als inzet. (2/x)

PM @MorawieckiM complaining about EU “imposing” decisions, conveniently overlooking the fact that the Polish government and Polish MEPs are European lawmakers as well, taking decisions that apply to all other Europeans as well.

@fernandezamster @vonderleyen Directe toepassing Rechtstaat conditionaliteitsmechanism­e­ (dus geen uitbetaling Coronafonds). Commissie kan zelfs Common Provisions Regulation toepassen (twijfel dat geld goed terecht komt). Commissie heeft die mogelijkheden nu.

Poolse premier Morawiecki gaat vol in de aanval onder voortdurend applaus van Poolse #PiS -leden van de #ECR -fractie: de #EU pleegt chantage zegt hij want ons hoogste recht is onze grondwet. Let wel, dit denken slaat de rechtsgrondslag van de #EU kapot!

Al een paar weken probeer ik te achterhalen om hoeveel geld het gaat en waar het geld voor ingezet gaat worden, maar tevergeefs. Het ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken en de Europese Commissie maken de aanvragen niet openbaar.

Gisteren werd het rapport over de doeltreffendheid van het EU Solidariteitsfonds bij natuurrampen gepresenteerd in het Europees Parlement. Interessante timing! Nederland heeft namelijk een aanvraag voor dit fonds ingediend bij de Commissie. Begin 2022 komen ze met een besluit.

Poolse premier @MorawieckiM houdt onbeschaamd lange rede voor binnenlands gebruik. Was te verwachten. Misbruikt podium @Europarl_NL voor nietszeggend verhaal, overgaand in tirade tegen Brussel vol met onwaarheden. Geen enkel juridisch steekhoudend punt. (1/x)

De tijd is nu echter wel gekomen om van belangrijke woorden ook naar actie over te gaan. Niet eenvoudig, wel nodig. #ruleoflaw

Plenary debate on Polish decision to deny supremacy of EU law started with prime Polish minister foreign affairs had very little to say. The president of the Commission seems determined to take measures, but it remains to be seen. Our resolution will urge her to deliver.

+1Cruciaal #EP debat over de rechtsstaat in Polen en de voorrang van het EU-recht. De uitspraak van het Poolse Constitutionele Hof, nota bene bekrachtigd door de #PiS regering, dat het nationale recht voor gaat ondermijnt de rechtszekerheid van de EU totaal
