Assistance to refugees should never be criminalised and journalists should be free to do critical reporting.

That’s why the case of @IBeugel in #Greece needs to be clarified. The @EU_Commission should verify and ensure compliance with EU law.

During the final Frontex hearing just now, I asked the Exec. Director how he intends to follow up on the #pushbacks in Greece. According to him, Frontex already followed up.

Apparently for @Frontex a denial by the Greek authorities is sufficient to ensure accountability.

Proud to be from the Benelux. Finally Member States are now speaking out explicitly. Developments in Hungary are threatening the European Union more than Greece 10 years ago, and countries like Germany were not holding back by then at all.

A lot of cynicism in one letter. Northern Member States finally call upon the Commission to enforce the rights of refugees in Greece. So that they can return them to Greece. ‘In a spirit of European solidarity’.

I just met with immigration lawyer Dimitrios Choulis, who is courageously supporting many of the most vulnerable asylum seekers on Samos.

+1Letter by @EP_Justice, on request of @GreensEFA, with urgent call on the Greek authorities to start an independent investigation into the deadly shootings at the Greece-Turkish borders. We won’t stop to call for justice until the EU stops to use violence against refugees.

@MatinaStevis 50 vulnerable people + 50 unaccompanied minors ‘under the age of 14’ and ‘only those in line w/ relocation conditions from 2015’ - meaning only Syrians. There are no 50 children that comply w/ these criteria in entire Greece.

@ForensicArchi 2️⃣ On the 4th of March, seven people sustained injuries, two of whom have been identified as Mohamad Hantou, from Syria, and Zeeshan Omar, from Pakistan. According to Frontex, Turkey doesn’t readmit any returnees from Greece since March. But what about pushbacks by Greece? And why are asylum seekers still detained in Greece, if they can’t be deported anyway?

Concerning developments in Greece. Detention and restriction of NGOs are not the answer to the humanitarian crisis. Relocation and family reunification is.

Court of Auditors report is crystal clear: European countries did not do enough to help asylum seekers in Greece and Italy. Legally agreed targets of relocation are not met and support for procedures is insufficient.
