🇬🇧 Today we vote in the European Parliament on large parts of the #Fitfor55 climate package.
Impact: Major social changes and more price hikes that no one asked for.
And the immeasurably small result really doesn't really help the planet.

EU wants to radically change itself to reduce emissions 55% by 2030
Extra cost upwards of €10,000 per EU citizen (€5tr)
It will reduce global temps by 0.004°C (0.007°F)
Let's not be surprised when the rest of the world doesn't follow

Climate change is still happening.
We are about to overshoot the 1.5 degrees target, which will hit the poorest the most if we don't act vigorously now. There is no social justice without climate justice.
That's at stake in tomorrow's vote on the #Fitfor55 climate package.

For Member States where wage formation is exclusively done via collective agreements, there’s no obligation in this Directive to introduce a statutory minimum wage.

+1@paddi_hansen To be clear: I voted AGAINST. Unfortunately, due to remote voting system still in place and a misunderstanding, my vote was incorrectly filed. I applied for a correction and voted AGAINST the entire report. Unfortunately, it would not have made a difference 😔
Paul Tang (PvdA) do 31 mrt 2022, 13:34
That's good news Markus! Because in today's vote we will not be banning anything. Instead we oblige verification to prevent crime and corruption through unhosted wallets. Crime and corruption aren't innovation, I'm sure a law-and-order party like the German EPP would agree?
Markus Ferber do 31 mrt 2022, 10:34
@EP_Economics votes on #TFR. We need to take #AML risks in #crypto seriously, but should not ban unhosted wallets. This would be the equivalent of banning cash - unneccessary and disproportionate! @GreensEFA and @TheProgressives continue their fight against innovation.
Michiel Hoogeveen (JA21) di 29 mrt 2022, 19:06
The greatest assets of #blockchain are traceability and transparency. The amendments to the Transfer of Funds Regulation make transers to a wallet unnecessary complicated, come with privacy risk and will hinder innovation. I will vote against. @paddi_hansen

1/ Just 2 weeks ago, the EU Parliament made the right call to vote against a proof of work ban. It needs to do the right thing again and vote AGAINST the amendments to the Transfer of Funds Regulation this Thursday. This reg will hurt crypto w/ no clear law enforcement benefit.

Some politicians have the tendency to overregulate the unknown. In the end, PoW is more secure. More miners turn to surplus renewable energy to improve profitability.
The energy argument is abused by "environmentalists".

The only settled method to create digital property is via Proof-of-Work. Non-energy based crypto approaches like Proof-of-Stake must be deemed to be securities until proven otherwise. Banning digital property would be a trillion dollar mistake.
