Good news. @EUAsylumAgency concludes that Taliban restrictions on women and girls equal persecution, and they are eligible for refugee status.

I urge the @EU_Commission to end the legal limbo that Afghans face in many Member States, by enforcing compliance with this conclusion.

This week we learned from @EU_Commission👇🏼that 500 Afghans and their dependents who worked for different EU missions, are waiting for member states’ visa. Maybe #JHA @EUCouncilPress ministers can solve this today in Brussels. Thank you in advance @EU2021SI #Afghanistan #savelives

An interpreter that worked for the 🇳🇱 has been killed by the Taliban. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

There are so many more Afghans who worked for EU-related missions or as activists and are in acute danger. Let’s move quickly and do whatever we can. #Afghanistan

One month ago on initiative of @RobertBiedron and myself, we asked👇🏼simply to let humanitarian aid get to 32 Afghans trapped between borders and to ask the other EU-26 for help. It only got worse; pushbacks, prolonged state of emergency. Today we’ll speak with @EU_Commission 1/2

The Afghan people, exposed to the Taliban terror, count on us.

We must:
* Step up humanitarian aid and bring Afghans at risk in safety, also in Europe.
* Defend human rights, women rights in Afghanistan.
* Act in unity to stand by the people.

But weak on international policies (not much more than ‘we stand with Afghans’, as long as they stay there….). On Green Deal, the Commissions seems to believe work is done after Fit for 55, while it is only the beginning. (2/2)

+1For 3 weeks now, 32 Afghans are stranded in Belarus-Poland borderland. Pushed by dictator Lukashenka. Circumstances deteriorating rapidly. Together with @RobertBiedron supported by 28 MEPs we call on 🇵🇱 PM @MorawieckiM to send aid and find lasting solution with other 🇪🇺countries.

Excellent contribution by @ecre’s Catherine Woollard in our committee. Vast majority of @Europarl_NL calls for putting our humanitarian values and solidarity with all vulnerable Afghans first. Member states instead continue to use regrettable language and hollow words. Shameful.

I have joined the call to @JosepBorrellF and @vonderleyen to open humanitarian corridors under the #TemporaryProtectionDirect­ive­ We need to continue to find ways to bring Afghans who worked for 🇪🇺 countries and missions and others who are most in danger to safety.

So true! It is thanks to brave women and men putting their lives in danger, that we can see the images and reports from crises zones. 🙏🏼 Apart from concern over their safety we must continue to evacuate Afghans who assisted foreign press. #freepress #independentjournalism

Exactly: EU should use the Temporary Protection Directive to ensure swift and equally shared protection for Afghan refugees, and initiate EU and global actions for resettlement and humanitarian aid. But also evacuate Afghans at immediate risk now.

Very worried about Afghan journalists and Afghans who helped foreign journalists. We have to evacuate those who have to fear for their lives. I don’t believe any of the reassurances by the taliban. #ShowDontTell

Very good that the Commissioner urges Member States to offer humanitarian visa for Afghans at special risk and to step up resettlement. I would urge her to initiate the proposal to apply the Temporary Protection Directive. As promoted by Borrell as well. ec.europa.eu/commission/pr­e…­

After coordinated 🇪🇺approach of necessary evacuation of staff, Afghans who served our missions and also human rights activists and those who assisted journalists, we need equally coordinated approach with UNHCR and IOM on increased EU resettlement efforts and help to 🇦🇫refugees.
