Every year, global climate summits feature a parade of hypocrisy, as the world’s elite arrive on private jets to lecture humanity on cutting carbon emissions.

Today I present my draft report on the revision of EU F-gas legislation (europarl.europa.eu/legislative-tr…). The existing law is a success for EU innovation and ‘the Brussels effect’ (EU law inspired global action). But we need to update it in order to deliver on our climate neutrality.

The sector and @ecb are still in a learning phase: the most important conclusion of the stress test is that we simply do not have enough data to properly assess climate risk. This should change quickly, because we need to take climate risk seriously, based on a solid framework.
Esther de Lange (CDA) Tue 16 Aug 2022, 15:24
Last month the @ecb published the results of its first climate stress test. It found that a non-orderly transition scenario combined with drought, heat and flood risk may lead to EUR 70 bln in short-term losses (even excluding side-effects and economic downturns).
Esther de Lange (CDA) Tue 16 Aug 2022, 15:24
With glaciers breaking off and heat records on a regular basis, it is clear that climate change is here and affecting us all. In recent years, central banks, the financial sector and supervisors have increased their role in the climate transition. Take climate risk, for example.
